Sagra della Miseria

For over thirty years in June in Colle Val d’Elsa the Sagra della Miseria has been repeated, a gastronomic initiative to rediscover the poor dishes typical of Tuscan cuisine. During every weekend of the month of June, starting from 7 pm in Piazza Santa Caterina, the dishes of the local gastronomic tradition take the chair with themed dinners involving young people and adults. Food stands and large tables where you can taste tripe, bread soup, chickpea soup, panzanella, pappa al pomodoro, fried vegetables and many other delicacies from the Valdelsan gastronomic culture of the past at popular prices. Choirs, cheers and goliardic occasions of pure fun cheer the banquet. The festival closes on the last Sunday of June, as usual, with “A football to misery”, a final dinner with all traditional dishes awaiting San Marziale, the patron saint of the city who is celebrated on the first of July. The festival was born on the initiative of three friends of the parish of Colle Alta who joined forces by involving other friends and relatives to make tourists and Colligiani know and rediscover the flavors of the past. Over the years, the event, born almost for fun, has become a fixture of the summer calendar of Colle Val d’Elsa with a high level of fun, with an ever-increasing participation in the suggestive setting of Piazza Santa Caterina.
