Fiera degli uccelli

Traditionally celebrated on 21 September and today only respected in the month, the Bird Fair is one of the most popular typical celebrations in Colle Val d’Elsa. It has always coincided with the end of summer when the calls for hunting, bred during the summer season, were put on the market. At the dawn of the Fiera, this was exactly what happened. Hunters from Val d’Elsa and beyond flocked to this event in the early hours of dawn, especially to hear the best bird calls to choose from, which would have affected the results of the hunting season. But the appointment was attractive not only for hunters, but also for farmers who set up their spaces doing business with the sale of farmed animals and cultivated agricultural products. The Fiera was an opportunity for business, but also for conviviality at the conclusion of the negotiations. Today part of that tradition is respected, even if the Fair is a modern interpretation of the appointment of yesteryear. Markets, displays of livestock and decoy birds alternate with photographic exhibitions, video installations and workshops that tell the story of hunting and promote hunting culture. Every year the tradition is renewed in September, with the Bird Fair, an event particularly felt by the local community which also organizes shows for adults and children, moments of pure fun, music and awareness actions. In fact, over the years, the Fair, in addition to showing animals and products of this land, has become a valid tool for raising awareness and knowledge of hunting for the general public. It is no coincidence that an Arci Hunting Club is operating in Colle Val d’Elsa which for the Bird Fair promotes initiatives to spread hunting culture in all its forms, supporting hunting in a modern, responsible and compatible way. A unique and singular event not to be missed, where you can taste excellent dishes based on game and local products, in a pleasant convivial atmosphere that takes you back in the past to the times of rural society.
